This is a full time position in a large teaching hospital affiliated with two medical schools, offering an excellent opportunity to sample work in New Zealand's largest city.

Position Highlights
  • job based in an accredited, 850-bed, teaching hospital of Auckland University and University of Otago, well-known internationally for world class work in orthopaedics; burns and spinal injury rehabilitation
  • other specialist services include neonatal intensive care, renal dialysis, and reconstructive and maxillofacial surgery.
  • provide anaesthetic care for a broad range of elective surgical specialties in addition to a busy and diverse acute workload.
  • Anaesthetists are rostered to work across two sites
  • anaesthesia department performs 32,000 anaesthetic episodes per year across all surgical specialties, including, general surgery, orthopaedics, urology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, burns, plastics and gynaecology.
  • Up to 10% of patients are low complexity paediatrics
  • tertiary obstetric centre delivers over 7000 babies annually.
  • the anaesthetic department provides a small amount of off-the-floor work in MRI, CT, interventional radiology, a newly built gastroenterology and respiratory procedural suite, and procedural sedation for pacemaker insertion in the cardiac catheter lab or dressing changes on the National Burns unit.
  • provide acute, complex and chronic pain management across both sites
  • participate in medical student and RMO teaching

Professional Requirements
  • FANZCA or equivalent qualification
  • Eligible for vocational registration within the scope of anaesthesia with the Medical Council of New Zealand or Special Purpose Locum Tenens registration
Remuneration Package

The remuneration packages defined by the SECA Collective Agreement 
  • basic salary for a 40 hour week and additional allowances for on Call Duty
  • six weeks holiday per year
  • 10 days study leave plus an allowance of 16,000 dollars per year
  • relocation package covering cost of removal to New Zealand
  • superannuation
