The hospital is a 260 bed secondary general facility with full range of medical and surgical services including 24/7 emergency department. It supports three small satellite hospitals across the Northland region of the North Island of New Zealand.
The hospital has an on-site cardiac catheter lab performing coronary intervention, service provision for cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, transthoracic echocardiogram (including TOE and stress echo) and well-developed heart failure and cardiac rehab services. Pacing/device clinics based in Whangārei cover the region but currently implants are undertaken in Auckland.
