Seeking a registrar in surgery for a full time 12 month contract commencing early 2025 in a 308 bed public sector hospital in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand. This is a non training post but provides excellent clinical exposure, supervision and education.


Position Highlights:
  • High-level support and training from experienced surgical consultants and senior medical staff
  • Opportunities to teach and mentor junior doctors (SHOs) and medical students, contributing to their professional development.
  • Hands-on experience in both directly and indirectly supervised clinics, as well as participation in at least two theatre sessions per week.
  • General ward work to further broaden your clinical skills and experience.
  • Undertake clinics and theatre sessions under appropriate supervision to enhance your skills and proficiency
  • Participate in general ward work to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Collaborate with consultants and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Fulfill after-hours on-call duties aligned with the consultant’s roster, with appropriate support provided. On call is one in five nights and weekends.
Professional Requirements
  • Eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • PGY3+ level of experience
Remuneration Package 
  • Salary and allowances NZD 100K- 200K 
  • 6 weeks annual leave, 10 days study leave plus NZD 16K for expenses
  • relocation package
  • superannuation 6%
  • permanent transferable contract
