Frequently Asked Questions About Working at WACHS

  • Employment Terms - Permanent

    Permanent employment contracts are of 5 years duration with possible options for further extension. 


    Remuneration and Benefits are as follows:


    Salary: Year 1-9 $375,863 – $473,828 p.a.    (Inclusive of base salary, 11% superannuation and applicable allowances)


    Employee Benefits:


    In addition to the great salary, employees enjoy an amazing range of benefits which may include (in line with operational requirements):


    11% employer contributed superannuation into a fund of your choice. 

    Access to generous salary packaging arrangements of up to $19,000 p.a.

  • Employment Terms - Locums

    Locums are paid as independent contractors under the terms of a Medical Services Agreement issued by WACHS.  Locums work shifts and are paid an agreed daily or hourly rate which varies according to qualifications and experience, starting from AUD $1300 per day for registrars.

  • Credentials Required for Locum Jobs

    Locum doctors working with WACHS must have the following credentials: 

    • AHPRA registration - full general or specialist registration. Limited and provisional registration categories are not accepted.
    • Right to work in Australia - citizenship, permanent residency or a visa which allows you to work in the job
    • Provider Number
    • Medical Indemnity Insurance
    • Criminal Record Check - within 12 months
    • Working with Children Card - can be obtained on arrival in WA
    • Experience in Australia or New Zealand - most registrar locums should be at PGY6 level and have 3 years of Australian or NZ work experience
  • The District Medical Officer (DMO) Job

    DMOs are  general practitioners with a minimum of 8 years postgraduate experience and enhanced skills which qualifiy them to work in rural areas.  They must have completed vocational training in general practice and hold the FRACGP or FACRRM.


    DMOs work in rural hospitals where they manage emergency departments and may perform anaesthetic or obstetric procedures.
